'MyBook' is a Game-Changing Piece of Technology That Doesn't Actually Exist

Mybook

Everyone is talking about the brand new Mybook. Too bad it doesn’t exist.

One City, a San Francisco based community initiative, released a comedy video about how products become viral and it’s pretty darn spot-on. Also, Joe Montana and MC Hammer are randomly in it.

Watch as a simple gaffe at an interview leads to the rise in popularity of the MyBook, a game-changing mobile device that will alter the face of mobile technology once it actually gets invented.

Report: Dallas Cowboys' C.J. Spillman Involved in Sexual Assault Investigation

Spillman

C.J. Spillman, special teams player for the Dallas Cowboys, is involved in a police investigation for sexual assault against a woman at a hotel, according to the New York Daily News.

The investigation of the Sept. 20 incident comes amid a public image debacle for the NFL, which has been grappling with its mishandling of Ray Rice, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, who hit, and then dragged, his unconscious fiancée from an Atlantic City casino elevator.

In a botched press conference, just a day after the alleged assault, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell laid out plans to tighten league discipline, including developing a new personal conduct policy and establishing a conduct committee to monitor off-the-field issues. Read more...

A Swim in the Black Sea

Black_sea-1

"Regardless of nationality or social status, spending a week of vacation on the shores of the Black Sea is a common dream."

The Black Sea - mysterious, menacing and mythical - is at the heart of centuries of warfare, turmoil and historical drama. But to photographer Petrut Calinescu, the sea and it's surrounding resorts are "a show without an end... you never know the next chapter." Born along the coast in Constanta, a small town in Romania, Calinescu has always had a fascination with the sea and its "crazy energy, chaos and color" ever since he was a young boy

'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D': Flowers for Agent Cooper

Kyle.maclachlan

We've known since August that Kyle MacLachlan was coming to Marvel's Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season, but there was no realizing the full, surreal impact of seeing the erstwhile Agent Cooper in the Marvel universe until it actually happened.

Well, cue the snappy jazz and put on some damn good coffee, because MacLachlan — who is presumably Skye's father — shows up at the very end of Episode 2, "Heavy is the Head," and he is definitely weird. He has an equally bizarre little sidekick in Raina ("the girl in the flower dress") who's returned after an absence in Episode 1 that almost made us forget the huge hint-bombs she was dropping at the end of Season 1. Why Denver Public School Students Are Protesting For AP History

Denver-protestk

Hundreds of students and teachers at Denver-area public schools are skipping classes to protest a school board proposal that could change the way AP U.S. History is taught in the district as well as board-mandated tweaks to teachers' pay

Two Denver high schools were shut down on Monday after a vast majority of teachers called in sick or took personal days while students picketed in the streets, chanting and waving signs that accused the district of trying to censor American history. The districtwide walkouts began the day after a particularly contentious Jefferson County school board meeting on Sept. 18 and have continued through Tuesday, the Denver Post reported. Read more...

Messages Supporting Hong Kong Protesters Stream from Web to the Streets

Hkprj1

The protests in Hong Kong calling for more local control of its political future have largely played out on television news broadcasts and live blogs, constantly updated with the latest developments

But for one group of self-described media artists in Hong Kong, even this high level of focus on the protests was simply not enough. They decided to crowd source support for Occupy Central with Love and Peace (OCLP) protests from around the globe using technology

The Add Oil Machine For OCLP is a website that allows anyone with a web connection to add a message of support for the protests to a website that displays the messages, in English and Chinese, in a real-time scrolling feed. That feed is then curated by the team, led by Chris Cheung, 31, Sampson Wong, 29 and Jason Lam, 29, and messages of support are projected onto buildings near the protests at sizes of up to 16 feet tall Read more...

Monday Marked Upbeat, Peaceful Protests In Hong Kong

Hk

Tens of thousands of pro-democracy protestors filled Hong Kong's streets Monday, demanding free and fair elections in 2017. Demonstrators ignored the government's calls to peacefully disperse, and faced less police opposition than the day before, the New York Times reported

The protestors are demanding full democracy in Hong Kong. China had promised free elections, but backtracked last month when the legislature decreed candidates for Hong Kong's leadership must be approved by Beijing

Civil unrest began with a student sit-in at Hong Kong's government headquarters on Wednesday. When the police used pepper spray to violently clear the compound Saturday, pro-democracy group Occupy Central With Peace And Love announced a blockade of Hong Kong's financial district Read more...

BlackBerry Wants to Launch One Unconventional Product Every Year

Blackberry-passport

The company wants to release at least one unconventional device every year and already has one in the works, a BlackBerry executive told Reuters .

“When it comes to design and being a little bit disruptive, we want that ‘wow’ factor,” said Ron Louks, the president of BlackBerry's Devices division. "Not all of the products will have it, but we definitely have opportunities."

He added that BlackBerry is working on a device that is easier to use with just one hand. Read more...

Robotic Octopus Can Crawl, Carry Stuff

Octopus-robot

Scientists have built a robotic octopus that is not only capable of swimming and moving in the same way as its biological inspiration, but that can carry objects in its tentacles.

A video of the mechanical creature has been making the rounds after the octopus' creators, a team of researchers from the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas in Greece, presented at a robotics conference in Chicago earlier this month.

Since last year, the little robot's speed has doubled, according to IEEE Spectrum

In the above video, the octopus is seen crawling in a water tank and freely swimming in the Aegean Sea. Read more...

Drone Footage Reveals Massive Scale of Hong Kong Protests

Hkdrn9870

The political protests currently taking place in the normally sedate confines of Hong Kong, referred to by many on social media as "Occupy Central," have captured the world's attention. But despite the photos of the protests being shared online, the sheer scale of the massive protest may be lost on some, until now

One of the local news agencies covering the protests, Apple Daily, has posted aerial drone footage of the protesters, giving international onlookers a better idea of just how big the protests have grown in recent days

The four-minute drone video, accompanied by a techno-thriller music track, shows protesters and police streaming through the streets during last night's activities Read more...
