England skipper Alastair Cook sounded confident about his side's chances of coming back from the setback in the Lord's Test, considering that it was a five-match series.
""With a five-Test series, youve got a chance to bounce back — and you get judged at the end of the series. It has been a really tough summer — because we havent won as many games of cricket as wed like.
"The frustrating thing has been that weve been getting ourselves into situations, especially in the four Test matches where we were ahead of the game by quite a long way and havent been able to force a result.
We must be doing a lot of things well. But at the crucial sessions, when we need to stamp our authority to get that win, we havent managed to take that chance," said Cook in his pre-match press conference here on Saturday.
Cook asserted that he was not thinking about quitting as captain. "As I keep saying in every press conference, Im desperate to carry on — because I love being England captain. Its a huge honour. Ive just got to stay true to myself and say how good it would be if I could get through this as a person, as a player, as a leader and take huge strides from it," said Cook.
The Essex left-hander also hoped to regain his batting form. "History suggests when I score runs England have a really good chance of winning games. That is exciting - I love that. There is nothing worse when you don't score runs than walking back in and feeling you have let the other 10 guys down because that is your job as an opening batter - to score runs and set-up games. I haven't been doing that and that is frustrating."
Cook said Stuart Broad was fit to play the third Test, and added that pacer James Anderson was experienced enough to tide over the controversy surrounding him. "Well I've got to make sure he's ok. Obviously, it can be a distraction with that looming over him. But he's a very senior, experienced guy who has been through a lot."
